Successful substrate digestion system confirmed by agriKomp!

The "boiler" increases biogas yield by 5 %

Thanks to their robust technology, biogas systems made by agriKomp are operated using high contents of cheap feedstock like solid dung, grass and silage. The naturally high fibre contents in these substrates place great demands on both the technology and the biology.

The raw fibre in the substrate is extremely difficult to "digest" for the methane bacteria in the digester. In the so-called "boiler" from agriKomp, the unprocessed contents of raw fibre are broken down in a thermal process so that they can be processed more easily by the bacteria.

As published recently, excellent results were obtained in the "boiling tests" performed by agriKomp, manufacturer of biogas systems based in Middle Franconia. About 5 % more biogas yield can be achieved by using the substrate digestion system developed by agriKomp.

The operating principle of the "boiler": The substrate his heated up between the digester and the post-digester. The boiler consists of a tubular heat exchanger which is supplied with heat by the heating water of the combined heat and power station. A displacement pump delivers the substrate to the boiler in numerous short pump cycles. When the substrate leaves the boiler, it has a temperature of 75-80°C, which improves both the digestion speed and the degree of digestion in the post-digester. Due to the high substrate temperature upon entering the post-digester, virtually no additional heating is needed to operate the digester. The result: The gas yield is increased significantly with the same amount of substrate.

The "boiler" is already used successfully in practice and can easily be integrated into an existing biogas system. The efficiency can be further boosted by using the biogas additive Fermaxx manufactured by agriKomp. It has a stabilising effect and increases the yield by up to 10%, thus complementing the boiler in an ideal way.
